Please send in your news to Cris Carter - share your graduations, weddings, joys and sorrows, and other events with your caring friends in Old Res!

Sven Spoerri passed away peacefully on November 13, 2020. His survived by his beloved wife Anna, whom Sven lovingly referred to as my sweetheart even when he was barely able to speak, son Glen (Tama),and daughters Jennifer (Jon) and Rebecca, and 5 grandchildren. Sven, who worked professionally as an electrical engineer, had many great passions in life. He loved classical music (especially Bach), opera, and watching documentaries. He also enjoyed playing tennis and bridge, and gardening (or weeding as his family fondly recalls).Above all, however, Sven loved his family, relishing time spent at his Cape house in Sandwich, MA with his wife, children and grandchildren. To celebrate Sven's love of the arts, donations may be made to The Cape Cod Playhouse, in Dennis, MA

Steve Clark, a founding member of Old Res, passed away August 28, 2020 from glioblastoma brain cancer. He was the beloved husband of Joan and the loving father of David (Lindsay), and Sarah (Andrew) and 3 grandchildren. After law school and a number of years in Kentucky helping coal miners, Steve was drawn to immigration law because he could continue to enjoy the satisfaction of helping people realize their dreams while at the same time mastering a complex and challenging area of law. His hobbies included gardening, reading, and walking the paths of Lexington and Martha's Vineyard, where he had a vacation home. Steve loved his family and friends who have lovingly supported him in his long illness. Donations in his memory may be made to the American Immigration Council or the American Brain Tumor Association.

Our dear friend, neighbor, and member (first) of the Lexington Newcomers and then the ORYC, Dennis Brown, passed away on May 10, 2020, following a short hospitalization. His wife, JoAnn, of 46 years, and daughter, Jenni, along with his grandchildren ( Evan, 10, and Abbie, 13) were so grateful to be able to spend some time with him at his bedside. Dennis will be remembered for his special, droll sense of humor and twinkle in those brilliant blue eyes. The ORYC made a donation in Dennis’ name to the American Lung Association. JoAnn is both so grateful and gracious in her appreciation for the support and kind notes she has received from our community. The photo of Dennis was taken during a trip to Iceland a few years ago.

Paul Carter, a longtime Old Res member, passed away on April 15, 2020. Paul is survived by his beloved wife, Cris, and cherished daughters Carissa (Ty), and Stephanie (Jason), and the lights of his life, his fourgrandchildren. Paul practiced as an endodontist and his superb skill, decency and trademark sharp wit were constants. Paul loved to travel to exotic places with Cris, family and friends. He also had such a strong aptitude for gardening that his flower and vegetable gardens always overflowed in color and crops. In addition, he devoted much time and energy fundraising for the Multiple Myeloma Research Foundation, He was always touched by the huge number of friends and family that turned out in Team Carter shirts every spring to walk and run together in the MMRF Annual Walk for Research. Visit his spirit in the blooms around you, say hello to him in your gardens, and remember his love in your hearts and stories.
Paul Stoller, a most dedicated partner to our beloved, previously deceased Sandy Stoller, passed away on July 29, 2020. No one appreciated a good game of poker like Paul. The games were always lively and jovial and many times quite loud. We’ll miss Paul at the table.
It is with great sadness that we report the loss of Sandy Stoller on Feb 18, 2020. She and her husband Paul are longtime members of Old Res. She spent her life trying to make the world a better place, from protesting the Vietnam War (where she met Paul) to her chartable work and later in life she quit her job and spent the last 15 years volunteering at various organization for causes she believed in until the brain disorder made that no longer possible. In lieu of flowers, she would appreciate a donation in her name to either
The Parkinson’s Foundation, https://www.parkinson.org, or
The Michael J. Fox Foundation, https://www.michaeljfox.org/donate

2019 - Cris and Paul thank you once again, family and friends, for contributing to the MMRF for Team Carter and thank you to those who also walked and ran with us at Carson Beach in South Boston. Team Carter again raised over $20,000 for myeloma research and Paul received the Top Individual Fundraiser Award for 2019. It was a beautiful day.

Gini Shevrin, former ORYC member (with her husband Phil), died unexpectedly in her sleep on April 23, 2019 after battling lung cancer for some time. Services will be held on Sunday at 9:30am at Temple Isaiah in Lexington, MA, followed by burial at Beit Olam in Wayland. Donations in Gini's memory can be made to: -Lungevity Foundation: https://lungevity.org/ -Temple Isaiah Sisterhood: https://www.templeisaiah.net/giving/online -your local Boy Scout group

We recently learned from Paul Stoller that his wife, Sandy, has been a resident at Newbridge on the Charles in Dedham since December, 2018. About 2 1/2 years ago, Sandy was diagnosed with Progressive Supranuclear Palsy (PSP), the symptoms of which can be similar to Parkinson's Disease. Paul describes this as a great facility with caring staff, daily activities, classes and TED talks, and plenty of snacks. Sandy loves the camaraderie and stimulation that visits afford. Don't hesitate to visit or drop her a note. Her address is: Newbridge on the Charles, 7000 Great Meadow Road Room 7376, Dedham, MA 02026

Dave Langseth sent this wonderful information, in memory of his wife, Arlie:
Dr. Amy Comander dedicated her Boston marathon run (2019) to Arlie this year. Two links are included below: - the first includes a link to Amy Comander’s fund raising page. The fund raising is for a cancer patient support group that Arlie and Amy had discussed several times over the course of Arlie’s treatment. The second is to a Boston.com article that has generally the same information, though does not include a link to the fundraising page. It does, however, have a great headline.

Dick Stenger, who was a long time friend and member of the Old Res Yacht Club, passed away on November 28, 2018 from complications of Alzheimers. After working in the computer industry for many years, Dick returned to his first love, woodworking. Dick, along with his wife, Pat, participated in Old Res's Gourmet group, Lazy Gourmet and Wine Tasting. We send our condolences to Pat and to their son, Gabe. Dick will be missed!

Our dear friend and member, Arlie Langseth, died on September 28, 2018 after a long and courageous battle with metastatic breast cancer. Arlie was active in our gourmet, needlework and book club groups and a dedicated volunteer at Follen Church. Her compassion and gentleness will be greatly missed by her numerous friends. We send our love to Dave, her husband of nearly 36 years, son, Chris, daughter Julie, son-in-law Matt, and their dogs.

Jim Undem, one of the founding members of the ORYC, died peacefully in Savannah , Georgia , on Tuesday, April 24th. He was surrounded by his friends and family.
Jim will long be remembered for his sense of humor.

Our dear friend and member, Caroline Lucile Nijenberg, passed away on October 15, 2017. She and her husband Wim were married for 46 years. Her competent and gentle manner made us all want to get to know her. She spent many years as a travel writer, then became an avid gardener and president of the Lexington Field and Garden Club. We shall all miss her and send our condolences to Wim.

Our dear friend and member, Steve Youngwirth, passed away on January 21, 2017, after a very short illness. We will miss Steve’s gentle humor and sharp wit. He was always a gentleman and whether he was treating his patients or socializing, his caring ways came through. His family was his top priority and flying and boating were among his many interests.
